Empreinte was born from a collaboration with artist Esther Garneau around her work Tag. Tag was not created on a traditional canvas. While Esther paints, she places her paint pots and tools on her worktable, and over time, layers of paint build up until they form a true crust of material. After about two years, that surface becomes a work of art in its own right. The circles seen in the print are actually the marks left by the paint pots. I love this idea of completely reclaiming the creative process, where what happens during the making of art becomes material for a new creation. For Empreinte, the diagonal cut frames different sections of Tag and creates a dialogue with the black fabric. Each T-shirt is therefore different, since the colours, compositions and areas of texture vary from one piece to another. The fluid cut, round neckline and cape sleeves keep the style comfortable and easy to wear. A way for Tag to continue its story on a garment made locally.
